Best time to post on Facebook in 2026: the studies say morning and midday, your Page says otherwise

Facebook is the platform where "best time to post" advice disagrees the most, and the two biggest 2026 studies show why. Buffer analysed 14 million Facebook posts sent through its tool and found mornings win, with Thursday at 9 a.m. the best slot of the week. Sprout Social analysed nearly 2 billion engagements across 307,000 profiles and found Tuesday and Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m. Both say Saturday and Sunday are the weakest days. Below is each study's day-by-day window, the reason they differ, and the ten-minute way to find your own best time in your Page's insights, which is the only number that's actually about your followers.

Quick answers

Best time to post on Facebook: weekdays, between mid-morning and early evening. Buffer's peak is 8–9 a.m.; Sprout's is 12–8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you post once a day, late morning (10 a.m.–noon) sits between the two and is the safest default.
Best day to post on Facebook: Wednesday (Buffer's top day) and Thursday (Buffer's single best slot, Thursday 9 a.m.); Sprout rates Monday to Thursday as its strong days.
Worst time to post on Facebook: the weekend. Sprout lists no peak time on Saturday and calls Sunday the worst day; Buffer's weekend slots exist but with lower engagement.
Pages, groups, profiles? Both studies measure Pages. Groups follow their members' habits, which you can read directly in group insights.

All times local to the audience. Sprout Social: engagements 27 Nov 2025 to 27 Feb 2026, published March 2026. Buffer: 14 million posts sent through Buffer, 2026 edition. Both pages re-read 30 October 2026; if either updates, we will.

Why the studies disagree

Different samples, different measures. Buffer measures engagement on posts sent through Buffer, which skews to small businesses and creators, and it finds the first hour of the workday wins: people check Facebook with coffee, before the day fills up. Sprout measures when engagement happens across its mostly larger-brand customer base and finds a long midday-to-evening plateau, which fits an audience scrolling on breaks and after work. Facebook also has the widest age range of any network, and older audiences skew to daytime while younger ones skew to evening; a Page's follower mix decides which study is "right" for it.

The 10-minute way to find your actual best time

  1. Open your Page's professional dashboard (or Meta Business Suite → Insights) and go to Audience. The "most active times" chart shows, hour by hour, when your followers are on Facebook. That's your starting window; post 30–60 minutes before the peak so the first reactions land inside it.
  2. Go to Content, sort your last 30 posts by reach or engagement, and note the publish hour of the top ten. If they cluster, that cluster beats the audience chart, because it measures what your posts did rather than when people were merely online.
  3. Check where your followers live. A Page with 30% of followers three time zones away has two peaks, not one.

Smart Post Studio draws this chart for you: connect the Page and the best-time heatmap is built from your own account's activity, and the composer suggests the slot when you schedule.

Best time to post on Facebook by day

Best time to post on Facebook on Monday

Sprout: 12–1 p.m., the lunch break after the Monday catch-up. Buffer: 9 p.m., the evening wind-down. Monday is one of Sprout's strong days and not one of Buffer's three best; treat it as a test day rather than a banker.

Best time to post on Facebook on Tuesday

Sprout: anywhere from noon to 8 p.m., its longest window alongside Wednesday. Buffer: 8 a.m. Tuesday is one of Buffer's three top days and one of Sprout's four, so the day is safe; the hour is the question.

Best time to post on Facebook on Wednesday

Buffer's best day overall, with 8 a.m. the slot. Sprout: noon to 8 p.m. If you post once a week, Wednesday is the consensus day; try one morning and one early-afternoon slot over two weeks and keep the winner.

Best time to post on Facebook on Thursday

Buffer's single best slot of the week: 9 a.m. Sprout: 12–2 p.m. and a smaller 8 p.m. peak. Thursday mid-morning is the one slot where the studies are closest, so it's a good first test.

Best time to post on Facebook on Friday

Sprout: midday, with engagement dropping through the afternoon as people check out for the weekend. Buffer: 8 a.m. Keep Friday for content that can keep working through Saturday.

Best time to post on Facebook on Saturday

Sprout finds no peak time at all. Buffer's best Saturday slot is 10 p.m., with lower engagement than any weekday. Only worth it if your audience chart shows weekend activity, which local businesses and hobby Pages often do.

Best time to post on Facebook on Sunday

Sprout calls Sunday the worst day. Buffer: 10 a.m., the slow Sunday-morning scroll, still below weekdays. Community Pages and churches are the usual exceptions; check your own chart.

How to test it in two weeks

Take the two candidate windows (Buffer's morning, Sprout's midday) and alternate them Monday to Thursday for two weeks with comparable posts. Compare reach and reactions in the first 24 hours. Facebook's distribution is heavily front-loaded, so the first hour tells you most of what you need. Then replace the loser with the top hour from your Content insights and run two more weeks.

Hitting the slot

Meta Business Suite schedules Facebook and Instagram natively and is free; if those are your only two platforms, use it. A scheduler earns its keep when the same post also goes to X, Threads, LinkedIn or TikTok and you want one calendar. In Smart Post Studio each post gets its own caption per platform, the web app fires it from our servers at the scheduled time, and the calendar shows every platform side by side so Thursday 9 a.m. on Facebook and Thursday noon on Instagram are visible at once. The Instagram and LinkedIn versions of this guide: best time to post on Instagram, best time to post on LinkedIn, and for video, best time to post on TikTok.

TL;DR: Post on Facebook on weekdays. Buffer says 8–9 a.m. (Thursday 9 a.m. best); Sprout Social says Tuesday and Wednesday noon to 8 p.m. Late morning midweek is the compromise while you collect data. Weekends are weakest in both studies. Ten minutes in your Page's Audience and Content insights gives you a better answer than either study.
