Planable alternatives in 2026

S
Sol Ericson Brand storyteller · Smart Post Studio

Planable is the scheduler that gets approvals right: a post moves from writer to team lead to client to legal, in the order you set, and publishes only when everyone has signed off. That is worth paying for if you have clients. The catch is the price unit. Planable charges per workspace: $33 a month on Basic for 60 posts and 4 social pages, $49 on Pro for 150 posts and 10 pages, analytics another $12 and the inbox another $7.50–9 per workspace, all on annual billing, and there is no free plan, only a trial of 50 created posts. If you are one person with eight platforms and nobody to approve anything, you are paying agency money for an agency workflow. Prices below were read from each vendor's own pricing page on October 20, 2026.

Disclosure first: we make one of the tools in this list. We'll say where Planable and the others beat us.

Quick answers

Is there a free Planable plan? No. There is a free trial of 50 created posts in total, no card needed; after that it's $33 per workspace per month.

What is the cheapest Planable alternative? For one person: Smart Post Studio ($8 flat, 8 platforms), Buffer's free plan (3 channels, 10 posts per channel), or Publer ($5 for the first account). Planable's $33 only makes sense when the approval chain is the point.

Best alternative if you still need approvals? SocialBee or Sendible on their team tiers, or Planable itself; the alternatives below mostly trade approvals for price.

What does Planable cost in 2026?

Planable's pricing page lists three tiers and a set of add-ons. Basic is $33 per workspace per month: 60 posts a month, 4 social pages, unlimited users, two approval modes (none or optional). Pro is $49 per workspace per month: 150 posts, 10 social pages, three approval modes including "required". Enterprise is custom, with unlimited posts and multi-level approvals. Those are the annual-billing prices; the page notes monthly billing costs more and taxes are extra.

The add-ons are where a small account gets expensive. Analytics is $12 per workspace per month. The social inbox (comments and DMs) is listed at $7.50–$9 per workspace per month depending on where on the page you read. Social listening is $82.50 per workspace per month. A single brand on Pro with analytics and inbox is roughly $70 a month before tax. A "workspace" is one client, brand or location, so a freelancer with three clients is on three workspaces.

Two things Planable does well that the price buys: the approval chain (none, optional, required, and multi-level on Enterprise), and the "Universal Content" idea, where the same workflow handles blog posts, emails and ads, not just social. It also has an MCP connection so an AI assistant can create and manage content across workspaces; we have the same thing, and it's one of the few places we're on equal footing.

Buffer, Metricool, Publer, Later and Hootsuite figures come from our earlier comparisons, re-checked this month; Planable's from its pricing page today. If a number is wrong, tell us and we'll correct it and say so.

1. Smart Post Studio: for one person with eight platforms

This is ours, so weigh it accordingly. The price is $8 a month flat on the Scheduler plan for all eight platforms (Instagram, Threads, TikTok, X, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn including Company Pages, Fanvue), $11–19 on Studio plans that add the AI writing studio and email campaigns, and a free plan with no card and no expiry. Against Planable's $33 workspace the saving is obvious, so here's what you give up: there is no approval workflow at all, no inbox, no listening, and analytics are per-platform rather than a dashboard. If a client has to sign off before anything publishes, we're the wrong tool.

Where it's different rather than cheaper: the desktop app publishes media from your own machine straight to the platform, so a 4K export stays 4K instead of being re-encoded on a server (the evidence). And on the "bring your own AI" side, the MCP connector lets Claude or Cursor draft and schedule into your queue with no instant-post tool, which is the same safety idea as Planable's approvals, enforced by the server instead of by a client's click.

2. Buffer: the free plan Planable doesn't have

Buffer's free plan gives you three channels and ten scheduled posts per channel, which is more than Planable gives anyone for free. Paid is $6 per channel per month on Essentials, so eight channels is $48, more than Planable Pro. Buffer's team plan adds basic approvals. Its MCP server is free on every plan including Free, which beats both Planable and us. The cost is media: cloud upload, 1080p cap. Our full Buffer comparison has the side-by-side.

3. Metricool: analytics included instead of added on

Planable charges $12 per workspace for analytics. Metricool's Starter plan ($20 a month billed annually, $25 monthly) includes the reports, which is what most social media managers buy it for. Mind the X add-on ($10 per connected X account) and the free plan's 20-post cap and missing X and LinkedIn. No approvals. We wrote up Metricool's pricing in plain English.

4. Publer: cheapest entry, per-account meter

$5 a month for the first social account and about $4 for each one after, so seven accounts lands near $29, still under Planable Basic, and with bulk CSV scheduling that Planable lacks. X is not on the free plan. Team features and approvals exist on the higher tiers. Our Publer alternatives post has the fine print.

5. Later: if Instagram is most of your week

Later's Starter tier is about $25 a month for one social set and the visual grid planner is the best in the category. No free plan, no approvals, Instagram-first in everything from analytics to feature velocity. If you're leaving Planable because you're a creator rather than an agency, Later is a fair stop; if you're on five platforms it isn't.

6. Hootsuite: the other direction

If the reason you're leaving Planable is that you've outgrown it, Hootsuite is where people go: inbox, listening, approvals, team roles, from $99 per seat per month. That is three Planable workspaces per seat. Only worth it if you need the inbox and listening; we cover the trade in Hootsuite alternatives for solo creators.

7. Postiz: own the whole thing

Open source, self-hosted for roughly the cost of a small server, 30+ platforms, MCP and API included. The price is your time: Postgres, Redis, updates, backups. No approvals, but if "my data on my server" is the requirement, this and our desktop app are the two routes to it.

Who should stay on Planable

Agencies with clients who approve content. Teams where legal or a brand manager has to sign off. Anyone using the Universal Content workflow for blog posts and emails as well as social. Planable's approval chain is the best of the tools here, and none of the alternatives above replace it at $33; the ones that offer approvals at all (Buffer Team, Publer Business, Hootsuite) charge about the same or more once you have a few channels.

Everyone else is paying for a feature they don't use. One person, eight platforms, no approvers: pick by media handling and price. If you edit video, the desktop route keeps your originals intact; if you don't, Buffer's free plan or Publer's $5 is hard to argue with.

Frequently asked questions

Does Planable have a free plan?

No. Planable offers a free trial of 50 created posts in total with no credit card. After the 50 posts you need a paid workspace, from $33 a month on annual billing.

How much does Planable cost per month?

Basic is $33 per workspace, Pro is $49 per workspace, both on annual billing; Enterprise is custom. Analytics ($12), social inbox ($7.50–9) and social listening ($82.50) are per-workspace add-ons. One brand on Pro with analytics and inbox is about $70 a month.

What is the best Planable alternative for a solo creator?

If you don't need approvals: a flat-price scheduler. Smart Post Studio is $8 a month for eight platforms with a free plan; Buffer's free plan covers three channels; Publer starts at $5 for one account. Check your platform list first: Buffer's free plan and Publer's free plan don't include X, and Metricool charges extra for it.

While you're comparing, the character counter and grid maker on our tools page are free with no account, whichever scheduler you end up on.
