Publer alternatives in 2026
Publer might be the most feature-dense scheduler in its price class — bulk-schedule 500 posts from a CSV, post to Bluesky and Mastodon and Telegram, recycle evergreen content with spintax. So why do people search for alternatives? Almost always the same three discoveries: the pricing is per social account, so costs climb with every platform you add; X/Twitter isn't available on the free plan at all; and the free tier keeps your post history for exactly 24 hours. Here's the honest landscape as of July 2026 — we checked every pricing page this week.
Full disclosure up front: we make one of the tools on this list. As always, we'll tell you exactly where the others — including Publer — beat us.
1. What Publer actually costs
Publer's Professional plan starts at $5/month for a single social account, with each additional account around $4/month. That's honest, flexible pricing — if you run two or three accounts. Run the numbers at full spread and it turns: seven platforms is roughly $29/month on Professional, and about $52/month on Business (which is where analytics, unlimited AI, and hashtag tools live). Two Facebook pages? That's two accounts. The meter runs on connections, not platforms.
The free plan is 3 social accounts (X excluded entirely — Publer cites X's API costs), 10 scheduled posts per account, 25 drafts, and a 24-hour post history: anything you published yesterday is gone from your dashboard today. It's a demo, not a workflow.
2. Credit where due: what Publer does well
Nobody in this price class matches Publer's platform breadth — Pinterest, Google Business, Telegram, Mastodon, Bluesky, even WordPress, alongside the big seven. The bulk tools (CSV scheduling, recycling, RSS automation) are genuinely strong. If your workflow is high-volume evergreen recycling across niche platforms, Publer may still be your answer, and the rest of this article will read like reasons to stay. That's fine — honest comparisons cut both ways.
3. The alternatives, honestly compared
Buffer — same per-channel model, simpler product. $5–6 per channel per month with a genuinely usable free tier (3 channels, 10 scheduled posts each — and unlike Publer's free plan, X is included). The interface is the cleanest in the category. But the pricing math is Publer's math: 7 channels lands around $30–42/month, and video transcodes to 1080p H.264 in Buffer's cloud on the way through. Details in our Buffer breakdown.
Metricool — flat per-brand pricing, analytics-first. One brand with (almost) all its networks on Starter from $20/month annual (~$25 monthly). The catch that surprises people: X is a paid add-on at +$5/month per connected account even on paid plans, and LinkedIn isn't on the free tier. If reporting matters more than posting volume, it's the strongest analytics per dollar on this list.
Later — visual-first, no free plan. From ~$25/month (about $18.75 billed yearly), 14-day trial, and the entry tier caps around 30 posts per month per profile. Excellent Instagram/TikTok visual planner; weaker outside Meta's orbit. See the full Smart Post Studio vs Later comparison.
Smart Post Studio — ours, flat pricing, different architecture. A desktop app for Mac and Windows: your media stays on your machine and publishes directly to each platform's API at post time — no cloud transcode, 4K stays 4K, file caps are whatever each platform natively accepts. All 7 platforms — Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, X (included, no add-on), YouTube, LinkedIn — on every plan: $19/month flat, or $11/month billed semi-annually. The AI Writing Studio (powered by Claude) writes platform-aware captions natively in 50+ languages, 300 generations a month included. There's also a companion web app for posting on the go — that path holds media briefly in the cloud and auto-deletes ~15 minutes after publishing. Where Publer beats us: no Pinterest/Telegram/Mastodon/Bluesky yet, no CSV bulk import, no spintax recycling, and no free tier (14-day free trial instead).
💵 Seven platforms, real monthly cost (July 2026 pricing pages)
→ Publer Professional: ~$29 ($5 + ~$4 × 6 extra accounts) · Business ~$52
→ Buffer: ~$30–42 ($5–6 × 7 channels)
→ Metricool Starter: ~$25–30 (from $20 annual + $5 X add-on)

4. How to pick in five minutes
Two or three accounts, want free: Buffer's free tier — it includes X, Publer's doesn't. High-volume recycling across niche platforms: stay on Publer, honestly. Reports for a client or boss: Metricool. Instagram-first visual planning: Later. All seven majors, video quality or privacy matters, predictable flat bill: that's the profile we built Smart Post Studio for. And whichever you pick, batch your posting — the tool should work while you make things.

Publer alternatives — quick answers
Why is Publer more expensive than it looks?
Per-account pricing. The advertised $5/month covers one social account; each additional account adds ~$4/month on Professional (~$7 on Business). Seven platforms ≈ $29–52/month depending on tier — and two pages on the same platform count as two accounts.
Does Publer have a free plan for X/Twitter?
No. Publer excludes X from the free plan entirely, citing X's API costs — you need a paid subscription to connect an X account. Buffer's free plan and Smart Post Studio's trial both include X.
What's the cheapest Publer alternative for all major platforms?
At 2–3 channels, Buffer free or Buffer paid ($5–6/channel) wins. At all 7 major platforms, flat pricing wins: Smart Post Studio is $11–19/month total, every feature included, X included.
Do any Publer alternatives skip the cloud upload?
Only desktop-native schedulers. Publer, Buffer, Metricool, and Later all route media through their servers with re-encoding. A desktop app that publishes directly from your machine keeps original quality — the full explanation is in our no-cloud-upload breakdown.
Run the system without the busywork.
Smart Post Studio schedules a week of posts across all seven platforms from your Mac or PC — straight from your desktop, no cloud middleman. 14-day free trial, then $19/month (or $11/month on semi-annual).
